This is the acronym given to the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005.  Due to the length of the title, it is often abbreviated as BAPCPA.

It is just as commonly and ofter irreverently referred to a BAP-CRAPPA by noted legal scholars who view the law as some of the worst legislation in history, or sarcastically as the Bankruptcy Abuse and Prevention of Consumer Protection Act of the Republican Congress.

Other synonyms include the Bankruptcy Reform Act, the new law, the bankruptcy amendments, and my preferred choice, the Act.

The most significant aspect of BAPCPA is introduction of the Means Test to the bankruptcy process.  The means test is a rigid formula that is used to determine whether a debtor qualifies to file a chapter 7 bankruptcy based on a look at the past six months of income and a combination of past, present and future expenses.
